Electronic shock collar for dogs, cats to be banned

Ireland is banning electronic shock collars for dogs and cats following a public consultation. While existing users can continue with registered animals, new pets can’t be trained with these collars. However, they can still be used with electronic enclosures and for anti-bark purposes.

Minister Mc Conalogue emphasized the welfare concerns and indicated that this move aligns with expert advice and public sentiment regarding animal treatment.

The ban reflects a commitment to animal welfare and addresses concerns raised by various organizations and individuals.
